Last Updated: 13 April 2026

This policy explains how we handle your data, our reliance on third-party services, and our commitment to using only essential cookies.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Authentication Data

We use Google for account authentication. When you sign in, we collect and store:

  • Google ID & Email Address: To identify your account and manage your admin-approved access.
  • Profile Information: Your Google display name and profile picture (if provided).
  • OAuth Tokens: Stored securely in our private database schema to manage your active sessions.

1.2 User-Generated Content (UGC)

  • Metadata: Recap titles, descriptions, and timestamps are stored in our database and indexed for search functionality.
  • Media Uploads: Custom avatars, overlay images and thumbnails are hosted on Amazon Web Services S3 and served via CloudFront.

2. Third-Party Data Processing

2.1 YouTube API Services

Recap.Tube uses YouTube API Services. By using this platform, you agree to be bound by the Google Privacy Policy. We do not access your private YouTube data (such as private playlists or watch history); we only interact with public video metadata.

2.2 Automated Moderation (OpenAI)

To ensure community safety, your metadata (usernames, display names, pronouns and Recap details) may be processed by OpenAI.

  • This data is sent via an API to check for violations of our terms (e.g., hate speech or NSFW content).
  • We do not share your email address or other unique identifiers with OpenAI.
  • We utilise professional API settings to ensure your content is not used by third parties to train AI models.

2.3 Data Infrastructure

Our primary servers are located in Amsterdam, Netherlands, to ensure compliance with EU data protection standards. We also utilise Cloudflare and AWS CloudFront for network security and content delivery.

3. Cookies and Local Storage

We believe in a tracker-free experience. Recap.Tube does not use any non-essential, marketing, or tracking cookies.

3.1 Essential Cookies

We use cookies strictly for the following functional purposes:

  • Sessions: To keep you signed in to your account.
  • Preferences: To remember your choice between Dark Mode and Light Mode.

3.2 Local Storage

We utilise browser Local Storage to enhance your user experience. This is used to persist data in "Create" or "Edit" forms, ensuring your progress is not lost if you accidentally refresh the page or navigate away from the route. This data remains on your local device and is not collected by us unless you submit the form.

4. Your Rights (GDPR)

As a service operated from Estonia, we comply with the GDPR. You have the right to:

  • Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Request the deletion of your account and all associated data.
  • Withdraw your consent for data processing at any time (via account deletion or revoking Google OAuth permissions).
